It is possibly an understatement to say that I am not a morning person. I’m sure I could be, if mornings started a little bit later in the day but my kids have a tendency towards getting up at silly o’clock and so by the time 6am hits I’m normally already in a bit of a grump. I’m not super vain but feeling good on the school run helps to put me in a better mood for the day. My hair might still be a bit flyaway but if I’ve managed to pop some make up on or I’m wearing a good coat or shoes then I feel a bit better about myself. I’ve got a few school run essentials that I love and today I’m also sharing how you can save some money on some of them too – making your essentials totally justifiable!
Five School Run Essentials
Converse – I think it’s pretty much a universal truth that converse are part of all mum uniforms?! I know that I tend to wear mine until they fall apart and then by another pair in a different colour as I know that they will fit, last for ages and go with everything! Love The Sales is a really good site because it finds all the different sales in around 500 different sites, meaning that you can find really good offers without having to look in loads of different places. They have a really good Converse sale which I’m currently eyeing up some gold converse shoes in!
A decent lipstick – I don’t wear loads of make-up but I normally try and even that out by wearing really bold lipsticks! When I was younger I used to be mortified by people who would go and apply lipstick to make them feel better but these days it makes me feel more ready to face the world!
A raincoat – when my son started school I decided to get myself a decent raincoat, my theory was that with a buggy you can’t hold an umbrella at the same and I didn’t want to get soaked standing outside waiting for the gate to open. I have a bright pink Joules coat that I love and it always keeps me dry no matter how grim it is outside.
Ugg boots – I suffer from Raynaud’s Disease which means my hand and feet get especially cold and painful or I lose the feeling in them. This happens a lot in winter but I’ve even had it happen in the middle of August – fun times! They’re not the cheapest of boots but if you check out an Ugg sale you can often get a good discount on them which I think makes them much more justifiable!
A big, empty handbag – by all means bring your keys, phone and purse but a big bag is great for when you need to take home whatever your kids have been creating at school. I’ve been caught out many times trying to safely shepherd two kids how and also carry loads of their artwork (especially my youngests junk modeling – eek!) These days I try and make my life easier by just taking a bag and there’s some really nice Accessorize and Oasis ones on Love The Sales at the moment.
What are the school run essentials that you couldn’t live without?

I hated the school run with a passion. For me my top five things were snacks, a spare bag for all the crap, a warm coat, my phone (for the waiting) and earphones, – I listened to music on the way home and so I didn’t have to talk to the other mums!
Michelle Twin Mum
I’m obviously a very unusual kind of mum. I don’t have converse or Uggs and probably never will. I also always forget to apply lipstick and I don’t even bother with a bag on the school run! lol Mich x

Our school is a fair walk away so when I’m about I just jump in the car with them and I barely brush my hair let alone manage anything else on those mornings 😉
Kara
A decent raincoat is my one essential. I have been caught in many a downpour
Kiri
I really need to get a better raincoat, I always get soaked on the school run.
