How to make Ghosthunters Inspired Spooky Biscuits

26th October 2015 by Kate Williams | Leave a Comment

With half term and the clock change over the weekend I ended up spending today stuck indoors with two kids, one of which had so little sleep last night that he could barely manage to play. What to do?! Thankfully both my kids are Halloween mad at the moment so we made these fun ghost biscuits inspired by the film Ghosthunters, perfect for a family film night snack this Halloween!

About Ghosthunters:

When the often-fearful eleven-year-old Tom discovers a slimy green ghost in his cellar called Hugo, he is understandably afraid. However, Tom soon realises that Hugo, who is an ASG (Averagely Spooky Ghost), is not only completely harmless but also desperately in need of his help. He has been banished from his haunted house by a dangerous AIG (Ancient Ice Ghost) who has moved in and is spreading an arctic cold over the entire town in the middle of summer! Ghosthunters is available now to buy on Amazon or on Amazon Instant Video if you fancy a spooktastic film for the kids right now!

To make your Ghosthunters inspired biscuits you will need:

250g butter or margarine

140g Caster sugar

One egg yolk

2 Tsp vanilla extract

300g Plain Flour

Ready made icing in green, white and blue

Kitchen utensils – bowl, spoons, baking tray, baking paper, rolling pin, weighing scales, cooling rack, ghost shaped biscuit cutter

Oven temperature – 170c (fan oven)

How to make your Hugo Biscuits:

Mix the butter and sugar together in a bowl, then add the egg yolk, vanilla essence and flour, stirring and mixing as you go. Try to use a spoon to keep it all together as hands can make biscuit dough a bit sticky for rolling out, if this happens you can always pop it in the fridge for a minute. As you can see my two had a blast making the biscuit dough!

HALLOWEEN COOKIES

Once your dough is ready, roll it out using a bit of flour to stop it sticking and then using your ghost biscuit cutter cut out your Hugo shapes. Place on some baking paper on a baking tray and then cook for ten minutes. Once your biscuits are cooled they are ready to be decorated – make sure you use green icing so they look like Hugo, my kids always love a theme!

HUGO BISCUITS

We found that the icing was much easier to spread if we used a knife. I don’t like taking pictures of stuff I’ve made but not what my kids are done, so I made my son take his biscuits outside into the sun for a photoshoot too!

GHOST BISCUITS

Apparently they were the best biscuits ever!

If you’re looking for some family fun this half-term, there’s also a Ghosthunters Icy Trail on at Ham House in Richmond, perfect for making a full day of spooky family fun!
