I’m very lucky to be blessed with a lovely, kind three year old boy who wants to give me birthday presents every time we go out. I’m slightly less lucky that those gifts are always pine cones! I always seem to have a handbag full of the things so with that in mind I thought it might be a good idea to round up some of the best pine cone activities for preschoolers to help out any fellow parent with bags full of the things who can’t bear to just chuck them out!
Starting at the top are these gorgeous Pine Cone Fairies from Red Ted Art, these will need a hand from mum or dad but most preschoolers I know would love to play with these!
Sow, Sprout, Play has a gorgeous idea for a sensory play idea using spice paints with pine cones while Crayon Box Chronicles share a cute tutorial on how to make this Royal Penguin with pine cones that I know my son would adore. (Crayon Box Chronicles no longer exists sadly.)
If it’s warm where you are (and crikey it’s not here) then this idea for splatter painting with pine cones from Mess for Less would be fab. I think it would also be great indoors if you have enough room so maybe a good idea for playgroups or messy play groups!
The Imagination Tree has a lovely post about the fun her girls had with pine cones and a discovery box that I’d love to try while I Can Teach My Child shares a pine cone activity for preschoolers that I know would be super popular – these sweet creatures! We are obsessed with googly eyes here!
If you’re looking for an educational activity then I reckon you can’t go wrong with Toddler Approved’s counting game, while for those of you who want to get out in the garden there’s a lovely tutorial on making pine cone bird feeders at Juggling with Kids, do go and check out the picture of the bird using them!
Finally Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas has a brilliant tutorial for pine cone leaf painting that I think would make great decorations for making your home look super seasonal!
