Chinese New Year Cut and Paste Craft
My kids have always really enjoyed the festivities around Chinese New Year and whether or not you have any celebrations happening near you creating some themed crafts is a great way to learn a little bit more about the festival while having fun.
Each year in the Chinese calendar is represented by a different zodiac animal and you’ll find each of these in our printable too:
- Rat
- Ox
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Snake
- Horse
- Ram (or goat)
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Pig
2025 is the year of the snake and 2026 is the year of the horse. If you’d like to learn more about the festival there’s a really good article on the BBC aimed at kids where you can find out what zodiac animal you are, what the Lunar New Year is and how to make Chinese rattle drums.
Craft Supplies Needed:
- Chinese New Year cut and paste craft PDF
- Scissors
- Glue
- Colored pencils, colored markers or crayons
Chinese New Year Craft
Start by printing out the pages of the PDF file onto white paper. If you don’t want to add the zodiac animals then you don’t need to add this page.
Grab your markers or colored pencils and color in the Chinese New Year scene and all of the items that you’ll be adding to your picture.
Using your scissors, follow the dotted lines on the printable to cut out each of the items you’ll be using.
Dab a little bit of glue onto the back of each item and stick them onto the background page. I would recommend gluing down any larger items first such as the fireworks or door to make sure that you have room for them.
Once you’ve stuck everything onto the background scene your craft is finished and ready to display.
