Day of The Dead Craft

Since watching Coco my kids have been really interested in Day of the Dead and all the celebrations that take place with it.

With it taking place on  November 1st and 2nd I also find it nice to have something else that the kids are interested in straight after Halloween and an excuse to do something creative, plus learning about other cultures always has to be a good thing.

Our printable Day of the Dead craft is free to download and has three different options to choose from in the PDF file.

In all of the item pages you’ll find the same decorations to choose from with decorated eyes, hearts and a little mustache to add to your craft however you have the option of the sombrero having ‘Day Of The Dead’ or ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ written on it or being left blank.

Craft Supplies

  • Day of the Dead PDF
  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Coloring pencils, colored markers
  • Optional – white cardstock, playdough or putty

Cut and Paste Day of the Dead Craft

Start by printing out the skull template and whichever of the three options for decorations that you would like to choose onto white printer paper. If you would like to use this craft to make a Day of the Dead mask then print the skull shape onto white cardstock instead.

Using your marker pens or colored pencils to color in all of the items on the first page.

Using scissors cut out the skull shape and all of the items for decoration following the dotted lines around them.

Put a little bit of glue of the back of each of the decorations and then stick them in place on your skull.

If you would like to use this to make a skull mask then once you have finished decorating cut out the inside of the eye shapes. I would recommend doing this by pushing your scissors through the eyes into some playdough or similar to make cutting through the cardstock safer. You can then cut out the inside of the eyes so you can see through them.

Use tape or a hole punch to attach ribbon or elastic to each side of the skull so that you can use it as a mask.
