Handprint Eagle Craft

This simple craft for your fourth of July celebrations is really easy to prepare and as you don’t need scissors or glue this eagle paper craft can be suitable for kids of all ages.

Obviously though toddlers or kids in kindergarten will need a little more help both to get their hands in the correct position and also to not get handprints everywhere.

For this reason I recommend keeping a cloth or wipes nearby even if you are making this with older kids.

You can of course make this bald eagle craft by drawing the eagle’s head yourself but if you’d like to use our printable and make things a bit easier then you can grab our template at the end of this post.

Craft Supplies

  • Eagle template printed onto white cardstock or paper
  • Yellow marker
  • Brown paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Optional – wipes or cloth

Eagle Craft Tutorial

Print your template onto white paper or cardstock. Either material is fine but cardstock tends to hold a little more paint without becoming over saturated.

Using a yellow marker color in your eagle’s beak. If you don’t have a marker available then a crayon or coloring pencil will also be fine.

For the next step there are two different ways that you could do this. The first is to pour some brown paint into a plate and then have your child place their hand palm down into it to cover their hand before using this to make their handprints.

We’ve definitely done this in the past however my issue with it (if that doesn’t sound too over the top) is that your kids hands can get really dripping in paint but they might still not have full coverage on their fingers and palm – meaning that you might gets drips of paint on your picture but still not get a full handprint.

My preferred option these days is to instead grab hold of a paintbrush and paint your child’s hands, they can do this themselves or you can do this for them – we tend to find it’s pretty ticklish which I think is a good thing and makes your craft more fun!

Whichever way you choose you need to then make your handprint’s below the eagle’s head to form their wings.

When your eagle handprint art s dry it’s ready to display.
