Rocking Paper Plate Crab

Updated on 6th November 2018 by Kate Williams | 1 Comment

As we live near the seaside we love making sea crafts for kids, they’re a great way to remember fun had at the beach when you can’t be there yourself! My one and four year olds made these fun paper plate crabs so they make great crafts for toddlers and are not only cute but a great way to help with fine motor skills.

How To Make Your Rocking Paper Plate Crab

First fold your paper plate in half, we did one with the bumpy side of the plate on the inside and one on the outside and it didn’t seem to make any difference to how our crab rocked.

Next tear up some red paper or card. Tearing is great for helping kids develop fine motor skills and using torn paper rather than paint means that you can glue and draw on top without having to wait for paint to dry, a big bonus where small kids are involved as they normally like to see results rather than be patient for the next stage!

Cut out some red pincers for your crab, if you have young kids you may need to do this yourself. Glue on your googly eyes and pincers and draw on a smile and your rocking crab is done and ready to rock!

In doing this activity my son (4) was able to tear the paper himself and stick on the paper, pincers and eyes. He also drew on the smile himself. My daughter (18 months) enjoyed sticking lots of bits of red paper onto her paper plate crab – hers is the one with loads of paper on it! She (understandably) needed help with the rest but had loads of fun making it!

Disclosure: We were sent some cute coloured card and vouchers from Paperchase to share something fun on Instagram. They didn’t ask me to share it here but I did because I thought it was too cute not to share!

These are so sweet (and I bet they’re right at home on the beach too)!
