This cute wooden clothes pin ant crafts was a bit of a joint project by my son and I after we saw these sweet clothes pin butterflies on I Heart Crafty Things. Ours are slightly less colourful though and more influenced by our bug hunts on the way home from school. They’re still fun to make though and great to play with afterwards!

You will need:
Black pens (I use these ones as they don’t dry out so quickly if the kids leave the lids off!)
Glue
How to make your clothes pin ants
Colour your clothes pin black, the actual colouring does take longer than painting them but means that you don’t have to wait while they dry or deal with small people playing with black paint. Over the years I’ve learnt this is best avoided!
Glue the googly eyes on to the round part of the clothes pin to make its face.
Cut the black pipe cleaners into lengths and then feed these through the gap in the middle of the clothes pin. Twist the two ends underneath the clothes pin to make some legs – if you don’t twist it to secure it in place then your ant won’t be able to stand up. Did you know ants have six legs? I had to double check! I did think afterwards that our ants probably could have done with some kind of antenna but hey, we totally forgot! Sorry about that!
