Three. A funny old age. Or a funny young age. Both I suppose. Following the lead of the trees around us, the last couple of weeks have seen The Toddler suddenly blossom and change. “I’m not a baby! I’m a big boy!” He has gone from my beautiful baby boy to something older, different. In the space of a week he had his first invite to a birthday party from a friend he had made himself, rather than the children of one of my friends. Then after a long time trying to convince him to use the potty against his very adamant will, he suddenly decided that he would do after all. Which totally shocked me and I had nothing suitable for him to wear.
We go to the park. It’s not our first time there but it’s been a while. He wants to take his scooter which he has had since last summer but hasn’t mastered riding yet. I am taking photos to pop on Instagram, excited about the sun being out. “You like flowers don’t you mummy?” I do.
We sit at the bandstand, eat ice lollies, stripping off the millions of layers from the buggy that his sister is in, throwing our coats into my huge bag.
“I ride my scooter.” And he does, suddenly. Zipping around the bandstand with the proudest look you have ever seen on his little sun warmed face.
We are out and having adventures, in the big outdoors, in parenting and in growing up. It is the springtime of his life.
