Around this time of year I get the urge to update my home. Or move home. When the second option isn’t possible I think the best way to make the most of what I have is to update it with a bit of paint and a bit of creativity. With that in mind I’ve been playing around with some new colours this week and came up with this cute heart chalkboard tutorial!
What you will need:
Chalkboard
Paints: I used Crown Paints Lupin colour
Pencil
Paintbrush
Choosing your colours:
As with most things I spent more time choosing my colours than I did making my item! A lot of my home is painted in Crown paints so I knew that I could choose pretty much anything from their standard emulsion range and it would fit in well. I really like a natural, earthy look at home. As well as the small tree we have in our front room we also have some bits of driftwood gathered from holidays, stones from beaches we love and pine cones that my son collects! I love seaside inspired colours like Lupin, Stepping Stone and Moonlight Bay and like to mix them in with earthy greens like Soft Khaki and off whites like Sail White.
Making Your Heart Chalkboard:
I drew a heart shape in pencil on my chalkboard to use as a template and then used a paintbrush to carefully paint round it. I actually used one of the Crown matchpot testers which meant that when I was painting the larger areas I could use their applicator! Although this paint is normally for walls I was happy with the job it did on my chalkboard!
All it needs now is the odd note scribbled on it, I love you, lets go to the beach or perhaps the just as realistic ‘please buy some wine’? Now all that’s left to do is convince my husband to let me paint the rest of the room!
