I thought it might be a nice idea to share some of my favourite Christmas reading ideas for toddlers and children over the next couple of weeks. As someone who used to have their own second hand book business I’m understandably passionate about reading, although these days The Toddler has far more books than me and The Husband combined! I obviously need to up my game…
Stickman,by the brilliant Julia Donaldson, is illustrated by Axel Scheffler who also illustrated The Gruffalo, another favourite of this house. Every time we read Stickman The Toddler finds new details to look at and of course it features Father Christmas himself who is The Toddler’s new BFF.
We were given this book as a gift three years ago and it’s still popular round here, it’s read all year round which I think is the sign of a great Christmas book.
Rather brilliantly, The Forestry Commission are running some Stickman Trails in forests across the country this year where you can take part in one of their fabulous looking activities. There’s also lots of ideas on their website for Stickman related games you could play in your local woods so even if there isn’t something going on in your area you could easily make up your own Stickman adventure! I love the idea of bringing this book to life with my son so I’ll be trying these out and you can have a look at their website here for more information.
What stories are you looking forward to reading this Christmas?
oh lovely! I’ve not heard of that Julia Donaldson book! they really are the dream team aren’t they! off to share now! xx
I do love Julia Donaldson books, not read them all but I think my favourite has to be “A Squash and a Squeeze” – I benefit from the moral of appreciating what we have just as much as the children:)
YES!! We love Stickman here too 🙂
Also love the classic Raymond Briggs “Father Christmas” and “The Night Before Christmas” – makes it all more magical….
Can’t wait to dig all the Christmas books out of the loft this weekend now! x
