This week we’ve been making some super tasty bonfire night deserts and we ended up with a bit too much chocolate left over – a tragedy right?!
Of course it would be wasteful to just chuck chocolate away and with dinnertime looming I didn’t want the kids to just eat it all so we quickly made some bonfire night inspired firework chocolate bark.
This is super easy to make and is perfect for a treat while you wait for the fireworks to start!
Bonfire Night Desserts: Firework Chocolate Bark
Chocolate
Cake sprinkles
Baking Tray
Grease proof paper
Let’s make it
We’ve made chocolate bark or melted chocolate for cooking lots of times and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s to buy half decent chocolate.
Do you need the best, most expensive chocolate around? Absolutely not, but likewise I’ve also tried to melt the super cheaper chocolate before and do you know what happened? It separated. Gross huh? I didn’t even know that was possible.
So use half decent chocolate and melt it – we don’t own a microwave so we use a bain marie made with two saucepans.
Once the chocolate is fully melted pour it onto a baking tray that’s been covered in some grease proof paper. Then get on with the fun bit – covering it in sprinkles!
For our bonfire night desserts we used sugar stars, glittery pink bits of sugar, sugar strands and gold hundreds and thousands – decorations my daughter had picked earlier for looking the most like fireworks.
She loved sprinkling them on top of the melted chocolate – and pouring the bottle of sprinkles straight on there too!
Once the decorating is done all that’s left is to put the chocolate into the fridge until it is set. Once it’s done just break it into pieces and it’s the perfect treat to eat in front of fireworks or to take as a gift for a friend with a display!
This would make a perfect dessert to eat after our roasted butternut squash soup which is pretty much autumn in a bowl and perfect for this time of year.
